Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which rose 11.68% or 4.81 points to trade at 46.00 at the close. Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) added 4.55% or 2.22 points to end at 51.00 and Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb) was up 3.95% or 1.94 points to 51.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 5.38% or 49.97 points to trade at 879.61 in late trade. Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX:HUT) declined 5.12% or 0.39 points to end at 7.22 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 3.58% or 0.55 points to 14.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 541 to 509 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 10.47% to 14.14.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.11% or 21.30 to $1,933.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.02% or 3.15 to hit $107.39 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.94% or 3.17 to trade at $110.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 0.80, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.40% to 0.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 97.89.
