Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 2.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which rose 12.72% or 4.81 points to trade at 42.61 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) added 10.36% or 2.69 points to end at 28.66 and Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG) was up 10.24% or 0.64 points to 6.89 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which lost 2.18% or 0.37 points to trade at 16.63 in late trade. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) declined 1.99% or 0.12 points to end at 5.91 and Uni-Select Inc. (TSX:UNS) shed 1.66% or 0.59 points to 35.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 739 to 303 and 74 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.76% to 22.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.92% or 32.65 to $1,734.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.11% or 2.60 to hit $86.23 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.04% or 2.70 to trade at $91.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.88% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR fell 0.77% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.46% at 110.03.
