Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Open Text Corp (TSX:OTEX), which rose 12.10% or 5.98 points to trade at 55.41 at the close. Air Canada (TSX:AC) added 11.56% or 2.12 points to end at 20.46 and Pason Systems Inc . (TSX:PSI) was up 8.73% or 0.98 points to 12.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which lost 14.84% or 7.70 points to trade at 44.20 in late trade. Telus International Cda Inc (TSX:TIXT) declined 7.60% or 1.90 points to end at 23.11 and Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) shed 3.81% or 1.08 points to 27.23.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 626 to 338 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.70% to 13.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.50% or 30.75 to $2,024.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 4.11% or 2.82 to hit $71.38 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.86% or 2.80 to trade at $75.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.19% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR rose 1.18% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 101.06.
