Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which rose 6.99% or 0.26 points to trade at 3.98 at the close. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) added 6.63% or 0.80 points to end at 12.86 and CannTrust Holdings Inc (TSX:TRST) was up 5.68% or 0.1500 points to 2.7900 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF), which lost 6.23% or 0.32 points to trade at 4.82 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 4.96% or 0.170 points to end at 3.260 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) shed 4.82% or 0.78 points to 15.41.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 601 to 465 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.50% to 14.24.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.48% or 7.40 to $1523.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.83% or 0.45 to hit $54.92 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.46 to trade at $58.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7535, while CAD/EUR rose 0.47% to 0.6794.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 98.062.
