Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 14.39% or 0.78 points to trade at 6.20 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) added 6.97% or 0.28 points to end at 4.30 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 6.20% or 1.20 points to 20.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which lost 4.41% or 0.32 points to trade at 6.94 in late trade. Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) declined 3.27% or 0.59 points to end at 17.45 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) shed 2.89% or 0.23 points to 7.74.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 681 to 316 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.21% to 13.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.52% or 10.35 to $1,987.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.59% or 1.18 to hit $75.55 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.50% or 1.18 to trade at $79.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.67% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 102.27.
