Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.71% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 7.28% or 1.13 points to trade at 16.66 at the close. Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) added 5.54% or 14.100 points to end at 268.460 and Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) was up 5.52% or 0.81 points to 15.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV), which lost 6.96% or 1.470 points to trade at 19.640 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 4.33% or 0.210 points to end at 4.640 and Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO:CMG) shed 4.07% or 0.24 points to 5.66.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 606 to 469 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.08% to 13.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.46% or 5.95 to $1293.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.37% or 0.77 to hit $56.84 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.93 to trade at $66.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7460, while CAD/EUR rose 0.14% to 0.6636.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 97.153.
