Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 15.15% or 3.60 points to trade at 27.37 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 9.24% or 0.45 points to end at 5.32 and Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) was up 7.42% or 0.21 points to 3.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB), which lost 6.00% or 2.62 points to trade at 41.05 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 5.07% or 0.68 points to end at 12.74 and TC Energy Corp (TSX:TRP) shed 4.33% or 2.05 points to 45.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 360 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.25% to 10.00 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.66% or 12.85 to $1,958.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.66% or 0.53 to hit $80.62 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.66 to trade at $84.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.48% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 101.42.
