Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.63% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 9.74% or 0.75 points to trade at 8.45 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 8.77% or 4.75 points to end at 58.91 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was up 6.92% or 0.24 points to 3.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM), which lost 3.26% or 0.26 points to trade at 7.72 in late trade. Trisura Group Ltd (TSX:TSU) declined 2.78% or 1.23 points to end at 43.02 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) shed 2.51% or 0.12 points to 4.66.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 400 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.03% to 14.45 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.23% or 4.35 to $1,932.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $81.64 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.49 to trade at $88.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 101.79.
