Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were CannTrust Holdings Inc (TO:TRST), which rose 6.64% or 0.5100 points to trade at 8.1900 at the close. Cronos Group Inc (TO:CRON) added 6.20% or 1.2000 points to end at 20.5400 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) was up 5.95% or 0.20 points to 3.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which lost 3.92% or 0.130 points to trade at 3.190 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 3.70% or 0.040 points to end at 1.040 and MAG Silver Corp (TO:MAG) shed 3.23% or 0.43 points to 12.87.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 684 to 353 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.63% to 17.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.33% or 4.25 to $1297.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.49% or 0.30 to hit $61.34 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.10% or 0.07 to trade at $70.93 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7428, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6626.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 97.340.
