Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Utilities and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cominar Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:CUF_u), which rose 5.16% or 0.66 points to trade at 13.46 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) added 4.15% or 0.37 points to end at 9.28 and Air Canada (TO:AC) was up 3.82% or 0.880 points to 23.920 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Northview Apartment REIT (TO:NVU_u), which lost 5.82% or 1.38 points to trade at 22.35 in late trade. Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) declined 4.56% or 0.32 points to end at 6.69 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) shed 3.79% or 0.39 points to 9.89.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 576 to 481 and 155 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.93% to 13.09.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.36% or 4.60 to $1295.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.15% or 0.55 to hit $48.38 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.31% or 0.68 to trade at $52.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.13% to 0.7969, while CAD/EUR fell 0.33% to 0.6745.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 93.09.
