Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL), which rose 5.05% or 0.59 points to trade at 12.27 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 4.60% or 0.15 points to end at 3.41 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was up 4.45% or 0.95 points to 22.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dundee Precious Metals Inc (TSX:DPM), which lost 8.81% or 0.86 points to trade at 8.90 in late trade. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) declined 5.60% or 0.95 points to end at 16.02 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) shed 5.28% or 0.31 points to 5.56.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 512 to 491 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 17.29% to 8.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 5.20 to $2,040.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.70% or 1.22 to hit $73.00 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.10% or 1.61 to trade at $78.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.38% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 102.14.
