Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA), which rose 8.62% or 0.330 points to trade at 4.160 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO:APHA) added 7.96% or 0.885 points to end at 12.000 and MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) was up 6.29% or 0.32 points to 5.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE), which lost 5.69% or 0.140 points to trade at 2.320 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 5.48% or 0.20 points to end at 3.45 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) shed 3.92% or 0.40 points to 9.81.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 549 to 522 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.20% to 16.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.19% or 2.55 to $1314.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.18% or 0.62 to hit $53.03 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.87 to trade at $62.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.51% to 0.7554, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6667.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 96.520.
