Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.40% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO), which rose 8.87% or 0.290 points to trade at 3.560 at the close. Ensign Energy Services Inc (TO:ESI) added 7.59% or 0.53 points to end at 7.51 and Crew Energy Inc (TO:CR) was up 5.85% or 0.24 points to 4.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cascades Inc . (TO:CAS), which lost 7.82% or 1.27 points to trade at 14.98 in late trade. Air Canada (TO:AC) declined 7.31% or 2.010 points to end at 25.500 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) shed 4.81% or 0.200 points to 3.960.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 620 to 484 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.25% to 10.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.18% or 15.36 to $1312.86 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.92% or 1.48 to hit $52.14 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.67% or 2.07 to trade at $58.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.25% to 0.8084, while CAD/EUR rose 0.52% to 0.6819.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.55% at 92.46.
