Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrials, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG), which rose 14.60% or 1.55 points to trade at 12.17 at the close. Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) added 6.76% or 0.30 points to end at 4.74 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was up 6.04% or 1.14 points to 20.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV), which lost 3.06% or 0.740 points to trade at 23.450 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TO:NG) declined 2.52% or 0.15 points to end at 5.81 and Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY) shed 2.20% or 0.110 points to 4.890.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 623 to 449 and 135 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.99% to 13.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.22% or 2.70 to $1258.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.30% or 0.22 to hit $74.02 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.48% or 1.14 to trade at $78.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.21% to 0.7625, while CAD/EUR fell 0.26% to 0.6489.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 93.81.
