Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which rose 5.27% or 8.38 points to trade at 167.40 at the close. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) added 5.00% or 0.15 points to end at 3.15 and Nutrien Ltd (TSX:NTR) was up 4.98% or 5.32 points to 112.21 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canadian Western Bank (TSX:CWB), which lost 5.50% or 1.53 points to trade at 26.30 in late trade. Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) declined 4.81% or 3.00 points to end at 59.33 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) shed 4.63% or 0.43 points to 8.85.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 530 to 446 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.16% to 12.52.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 3.55 to $1,841.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.30% or 0.23 to hit $77.92 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.17 to trade at $84.48 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.67% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.49% at 104.94.
