Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 8.09% or 0.45 points to trade at 6.01 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 6.41% or 1.880 points to end at 31.210 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 5.16% or 21.290 points to 434.160 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR), which lost 10.32% or 4.23 points to trade at 36.74 in late trade. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ) declined 6.25% or 0.040 points to end at 0.600 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) shed 4.17% or 0.21 points to 4.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 530 to 527 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.19% to 14.41.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 3.15 to $1511.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.70% or 0.37 to hit $52.27 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $57.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7499, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.6836.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 98.637.
