Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.35% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 4.52% or 0.20 points to trade at 4.62 at the close. Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) added 4.22% or 0.59 points to end at 14.56 and First Capital Realty Inc . (TSX:FCR_u) was up 3.43% or 0.53 points to 15.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL), which lost 9.55% or 2.06 points to trade at 19.52 in late trade. Onex Corp (TSX:ONEX) declined 5.94% or 6.35 points to end at 100.50 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) shed 5.36% or 0.35 points to 6.18.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 563 to 404 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 15.84% to 9.67 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.69% or 13.95 to $2,050.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.29% or 1.01 to hit $77.00 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 0.93 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.44% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.28.
