Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.35% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which rose 7.18% or 0.55 points to trade at 8.21 at the close. Osisko Gold Ro (TSX:OR) added 6.51% or 1.10 points to end at 18.00 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) was up 6.49% or 0.80 points to 13.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM), which lost 3.63% or 0.58 points to trade at 15.38 in late trade. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) declined 3.53% or 0.54 points to end at 14.77 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) shed 3.31% or 0.18 points to 5.26.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 559 to 414 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.43% to 12.45 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.25% or 5.05 to $1,979.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.04% or 1.55 to hit $77.59 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.76% or 1.42 to trade at $82.03 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.36% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 103.36.
