Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN), which rose 16.56% or 0.51 points to trade at 3.59 at the close. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) added 11.76% or 5.29 points to end at 50.29 and Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) was up 4.71% or 5.09 points to 113.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa), which lost 8.04% or 1.24 points to trade at 14.19 in late trade. Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TSX:LIF) declined 7.70% or 2.84 points to end at 34.06 and InterRent REIT (TSX:IIP_u) shed 4.83% or 0.70 points to 13.79.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 514 to 460 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.20% to 11.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.10% or 1.75 to $1,818.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.35% or 1.05 to hit $76.53 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.78 to trade at $82.51 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.30% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 105.64.
