Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Consumer Staples and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE), which rose 8.04% or 2.38 points to trade at 32.00 at the close. ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) added 6.54% or 3.66 points to end at 59.66 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) was up 5.94% or 1.13 points to 20.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which lost 39.43% or 15.82 points to trade at 24.30 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 5.42% or 0.22 points to end at 3.84 and Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT) shed 4.79% or 2.19 points to 43.56.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 486 to 473 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.59% to 11.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.57% or 11.25 to $1,948.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.62% or 1.34 to hit $84.26 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.47% or 1.27 to trade at $87.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 102.33.
