Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:PD), which rose 5.30% or 3.69 points to trade at 73.28 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) added 5.28% or 0.55 points to end at 10.96 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was up 3.91% or 0.88 points to 23.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which lost 4.91% or 1.29 points to trade at 25.00 in late trade. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) declined 2.84% or 0.37 points to end at 12.68 and Onex Corp (TSX:ONEX) shed 2.48% or 2.26 points to 88.71.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 641 to 303 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.96% to 11.55.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.09% or 1.75 to $2,051.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.41% or 1.74 to hit $73.93 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.61% or 1.25 to trade at $78.84 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.06% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 102.18.
