Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Energy and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX:STLC), which rose 12.46% or 4.68 points to trade at 42.24 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 8.02% or 1.25 points to end at 16.84 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) was up 7.05% or 0.56 points to 8.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO), which lost 7.22% or 0.57 points to trade at 7.33 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) declined 5.36% or 2.78 points to end at 49.12 and Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR) shed 5.23% or 3.31 points to 59.93.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 551 to 431 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.95% to 14.80.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 5.65 to $1,963.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.27% or 0.20 to hit $75.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.31 to trade at $79.85 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 105.78.
