Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 6.14% or 2.41 points to trade at 41.65 at the close. Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP) added 5.73% or 0.97 points to end at 17.89 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) was up 4.33% or 0.54 points to 13.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX:VII), which lost 5.87% or 0.41 points to trade at 6.58 in late trade. MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) declined 4.96% or 0.23 points to end at 4.41 and TC Energy Corp (TSX:TRP) shed 4.08% or 2.31 points to 54.26.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 534 to 465 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 6.90 to $1836.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.57% or 0.30 to hit $52.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.65% or 0.36 to trade at $54.74 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7840, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.6490.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 90.773.
