Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE), which rose 7.65% or 2.04 points to trade at 28.70 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) added 5.72% or 0.36 points to end at 6.65 and Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS) was up 5.04% or 0.17 points to 3.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which lost 5.17% or 0.20 points to trade at 3.67 in late trade. Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI) declined 4.68% or 1.28 points to end at 26.09 and TransAlta Renewables Inc. (TSX:RNW) shed 3.49% or 0.44 points to 12.17.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 474 to 470 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.82% to 13.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.16% or 3.20 to $2,028.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.07% or 1.48 to hit $72.82 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.77% or 1.33 to trade at $76.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.20% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 101.17.
