Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb), which rose 7.09% or 0.42 points to trade at 6.34 at the close. Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) added 5.10% or 8.85 points to end at 182.49 and Gildan Activewear Inc. (TSX:GIL) was up 4.16% or 1.85 points to 46.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 4.04% or 0.64 points to trade at 15.19 in late trade. Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP) declined 3.62% or 0.61 points to end at 16.23 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TSX:LIF) shed 3.31% or 1.59 points to 46.47.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 555 to 483 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.11% or 19.85 to $1760.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.55% or 0.40 to hit $73.31 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.43 to trade at $74.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.44% to 0.8068, while CAD/EUR fell 0.18% to 0.6782.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 92.078.
