Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 14.78% or 0.85 points to trade at 6.60 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 7.47% or 1.50 points to end at 21.57 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was up 6.59% or 0.06 points to 0.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX), which lost 6.41% or 3.71 points to trade at 54.15 in late trade. Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) declined 5.55% or 0.92 points to end at 15.67 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) shed 5.42% or 0.16 points to 2.79.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 513 to 439 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.95% to 11.72.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 5.55 to $1,971.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 4.16% or 2.92 to hit $67.25 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.76% or 2.81 to trade at $71.98 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.30% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.19.
