Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.14% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 9.47% or 2.630 points to trade at 30.410 at the close. Open Text Corp (TO:OTEX) added 6.92% or 2.89 points to end at 44.66 and Aphria Inc (TO:APH) was up 6.45% or 1.090 points to 17.990 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL), which lost 3.83% or 0.250 points to trade at 6.280 in late trade. Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) declined 3.03% or 0.11 points to end at 3.52 and Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) shed 2.77% or 0.18 points to 6.32.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 725 to 386 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.81% to 11.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.44% or 5.70 to $1297.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.45% or 0.27 to hit $59.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.27% or 0.18 to trade at $66.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.66% to 0.7954, while CAD/EUR rose 0.18% to 0.6661.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 92.35.
