Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Clean Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.13% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL), which rose 9.07% or 1.77 points to trade at 21.29 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 6.67% or 0.10 points to end at 1.60 and Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA) was up 5.84% or 0.26 points to 4.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 6.06% or 0.28 points to trade at 4.34 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 5.63% or 0.21 points to end at 3.52 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) shed 4.41% or 3.97 points to 86.03.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 495 to 449 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 27.82% to 12.36.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.49% or 9.95 to $2,054.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.29% or 0.99 to hit $77.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.58 to trade at $82.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 103.21.
