Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Utilities and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.09% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which rose 15.68% or 0.370 points to trade at 2.730 at the close. Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) added 2.73% or 0.060 points to end at 2.260 and TransAlta Corp (TO:TA) was up 2.57% or 0.19 points to 7.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which lost 5.21% or 0.390 points to trade at 7.090 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) declined 4.65% or 0.610 points to end at 12.520 and CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO:CEU) shed 4.57% or 0.330 points to 6.890.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 579 to 519 and 146 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.56% to 10.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.13% or 14.67 to $1288.33 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.35% or 0.18 to hit $52.05 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.40 to trade at $58.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.06% to 0.7983, while CAD/EUR rose 0.18% to 0.6784.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 93.36.
