Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which rose 6.85% or 0.25 points to trade at 3.90 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 6.10% or 0.180 points to end at 3.130 and Genworth MI Canada Inc . (TO:MIC) was up 6.07% or 2.46 points to 42.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR), which lost 7.00% or 0.62 points to trade at 8.24 in late trade. Stella-Jones Inc. (TO:SJ) declined 5.65% or 2.81 points to end at 46.89 and Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW) shed 5.12% or 1.51 points to 27.96.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 562 to 531 and 151 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 16.87% to 11.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.54% or 6.92 to $1271.18 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.07% or 1.13 to hit $55.67 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.49% or 1.51 to trade at $62.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.36% to 0.7835, while CAD/EUR rose 0.76% to 0.6748.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 94.81.
