Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrials, Consumer Staples and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC), which rose 12.20% or 3.90 points to trade at 35.88 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 7.76% or 0.63 points to end at 8.75 and Russel Metals Inc . (TSX:RUS) was up 7.71% or 2.62 points to 36.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 6.18% or 0.11 points to trade at 1.67 in late trade. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) declined 5.45% or 0.20 points to end at 3.47 and Pet Valu Holdings Ltd (TSX:PET) shed 4.70% or 1.69 points to 34.23.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 543 to 408 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.22% to 13.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.45% or 9.15 to $2,042.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.48% or 0.35 to hit $73.51 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.23 to trade at $77.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.35% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 101.42.
