Buru Energy Ltd (ASX:BRU) has welcomed Chartered Accountant and governance professional Paul Bird to the team as chief financial officer, effective October 10, 2022.

Bird brings more than 25 years of mostly energy sector experience to BRU, as well as a strong track record of finance and business administration, financial control and reporting, corporate governance, debt and capital raising, treasury management, insurance and risk management, and tax planning.

His most recent role was as chief financial officer and company secretary of Metgasco Ltd (ASX:MEL).

Adding strength and diversity

Buru has engaged Bird for his diverse experience, including his work in corporate acquisitions and divestments, business valuations and joint venture farm in/out transactions.

“I am thrilled that Paul has agreed to join the Buru team at this exciting time as we focus our efforts on optimising our oil production business, developing our large-scale conventional gas and condensate discovery at Rafael 1 and maturing our integrated energy transition businesses," chief executive officer Thomas Nador said.

"His appointment follows a rigorous search and assessment process led by executive search firm, Lacuna Search.

“I congratulate Paul on his appointment and look forward to his contribution to the leadership of Buru. He has the right credentials and is ideally suited for our business as we execute our strategy to deliver value to our investors and stakeholders.”

The appointment comes just a day after Buru announced the formal commencement of Nador as CEO. Executive chairman Eric Streitberg is proceeding with a structured handover of executive responsibilities to Nador by year-end, at which time Streitberg will transition to a fully non-executive chairman role.
