Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Telecoms Services, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Nextdc Ltd (AX:NXT), which rose 6.16% or 0.360 points to trade at 6.200 at the close. Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (AX:APT) added 5.65% or 0.910 points to end at 17.020 and Tassal Group Ltd (AX:TGR) was up 4.40% or 0.185 points to 4.385 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inghams Group Ltd (AX:ING), which lost 3.91% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.69 in late trade. Bluescope Steel Ltd (AX:BSL) declined 3.44% or 0.590 points to end at 16.560 and Insurance Australia Group Ltd (AX:IAG) shed 2.54% or 0.190 points to 7.280.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 654 to 535 and 363 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 7.07% to 12.972.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1200.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $67.61 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.22 to trade at $77.59 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.14% to 0.7125, while AUD/JPY rose 0.44% to 79.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 95.04.
