Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Staples, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Bravura Solutions Ltd (AX:BVS), which rose 7.05% or 0.380 points to trade at 5.770 at the close. Whitehaven Coal Ltd (AX:WHC) added 4.21% or 0.170 points to end at 4.210 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (AX:A2M) was up 4.06% or 0.570 points to 14.610 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pendal Group Ltd (AX:PDL), which lost 8.71% or 0.810 points to trade at 8.490 in late trade. Bellamys Australia Ltd (AX:BAL) declined 5.67% or 0.560 points to end at 9.310 and Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd (AX:SAR) shed 4.73% or 0.130 points to 2.620.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 640 to 525 and 375 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.36% to 10.780 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.37% or 4.75 to $1290.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.39% or 0.25 to hit $63.64 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.11 to trade at $71.44 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7167, while AUD/JPY fell 0.10% to 80.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 96.507.
