Investing.com - (Toyota:7203) said Friday it and (Mazda:7261) will invest $1.6 billion to build a car assembly plant in the U.S.
The plant is due to begin operating in 2021 with a capacity to assemble 300,000 vehicles.
It said the project will create 4,000 jobs amid calls by President Trump to boost U.S. manufacturing.
The Japanese carmakers will also jointly develop electric car technology.
As part of the deal Toyota will take a 5.05% stake in Mazda, which in turn will acquire a 0.25% stake in Toyota.
