Animoca Brands Corporation Ltd has agreed to kick in a contribution towards the Global Educators Fund, a US$10 million grant fund set up by Open Campus Protocol to supplement standard education curricula through the use of Web3 technologies and communities.
Community-led education
The fund will award grants to teachers and creators producing educational content with Open Campus Protocol and launch partners.
Open Campus is a community-led protocol for educators, content creators, parents and students.
The initiative aims to leverage Web3 to create a modern, global and inclusive educational space where teachers, parents, students and content creators can collaborate.
Launch partners include Animoca Brands, TinyTap, GEMS Education, Liberty City Ventures, Dalton Learning Lab and others.
Open Campus enables communities to create, own and promote content they want to see available and allows educators to earn revenue and gain recognition for their work, by incentivising teachers to create educational courses, including interactive games, slideshows, videos and other forms of content.
Successful applicants can receive the equivalent of up to US$100,000 in EDU tokens to fund the development of their courses.
Earning opportunities for teachers
Courses can then be published on Open Campus launch partners, such as TinyTap, and tokenised and sold as Publisher NFTs, allowing teachers to truly own their content and earn revenue.
"Teachers are among the most prolific and important content creators, but they often lack the funding to advance and innovate in the classroom and in their learning programs," said Animoca co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu, who is also a member of the EDU Foundation Council.
"By supporting the Open Campus Global Educators Fund, which we believe is the first of its kind, we want to use Web3 to allow educators around the world to produce new educational content that is relevant and innovative and that can adequately prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the future."
