Alligator Energy Ltd (ASX:AGE) has enhanced its board skillset with the appointment of resources sector veteran Fiona Nicholls to the Board of Directors.
Nicholls brings to the board 30 years of experience from the global resources industry, having worked across a range of business and leadeship functions for companies like Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO), Rössing Uranium and Energy Resources.
The appointment comes at an important time for the company as it is pursuing the near-term opportunity of developing the Samphire Uranium Project in South Australia.
Nicholls will replace Andrew Vigar, a founding director, who has tendered his resignation to focus on his executive commitments and she will assume the role as chair of the audit and risk management committee.
Vigar has advised of his resignation as a director to focus on his current executive chairman role. The company thanks Vigar for his contributions to the board since its listing in 2011.
Near-term sustainable development at Samphire
Alligator chairman Paul Dickson said: “Having successfully completed our scoping study for the Samphire Project we now turn our attention to the near-term sustainable development opportunity this represents.
“To assist in the support of this, in particular, our ESG aims for the project and the company, the board is delighted to welcome Fiona with her wealth of experience and knowledge in these areas.
“On behalf of the board and team at Alligator, I would like to thank Andrew Vigar for his valuable contribution to the board since the company listed in 2011.
“He has provided valuable exploration oversight, consideration and judgements during the company’s Alligator Rivers work programs, as well as through our acquisitions and advancing work on more recent projects. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Notable experience
Nicholls’ vast industry experience comprises strategy and planning, exploration and operations, multi-country project development and approvals, due diligence and assurance processes, crisis management and organisational change.
In her latest executive role as the VP of external relations for Rio Tinto Energy, Nicholls was responsible for the policy development and strategic positioning of the Energy Product Group which included its uranium businesses with respect to sustainable development, product stewardship, climate change, community and Aboriginal relations, media, communications, and government relations.
She was also a previous director of Rössing Uranium Ltd, and a stand-in director for Energy Resources of Australia Ltd, and hence has a comprehensive understanding of the management priorities around such projects.
