Stocks continued their positive run today as earnings continued to trickle in better than expected. Today, Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), Johnson & Johnson, and Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) all reported strong numbers. Amid the upside action, several rumors made their way across trading desks. Below we highlighted a few:
GameStop (NYSE:GME) gained nearly 3% after Chairman and meme stock master, Ryan Cohen, tweeted a picture of himself with billionaire investor Carl Icahn. The tweet ignited rumors Mr. Icahn could be eyeing a stake in the struggling gaming retailer.
Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) gained over 4% after activist investor Starboard Value LP disclosed a significant stake in the software maker. The activist said the company has an opportunity to significantly grow free cash flow per share over the next few years.
Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE:CL) gained 1% after Dan Loeb's activist hedge fund Third Point disclosed a new "significant" stake in the company in a letter to investors. The activist wants the Hill’s Pet Nutrition business separated from the company's consumer assets.
