Stocks closed in the red again Thursday following hotter-than-expected jobs data ahead of tomorrow's nonfarm payrolls report. Amid the downside, several rumors drove trading action in select stocks. Below we highlighted a couple:
Western Digital (NASDAQ:WDC) gained nearly 7% following reports from Bloomberg News that the company has restarted merger talks with Japan's Kioxia Holdings. The two parties were in talks on a $20 billion merger in 2021 but those talks failed to reach an agreement. WDC has been conducting a strategic review since June 2022 after being targeted by activist investor Elliott Investment Management.
World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE:WWE) gained over 10% after-hours Thursday on news that majority owner and former Chief Executive Vince McMahon is planning to return to the business and supports a possible sale of the company. The news comes less than a year after McMahon retired following a sexual-harassment scandal.
