April 5 (Reuters) - Sydney FC secured their first win in three games on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Melbourne Victory and while the defending A-League champions still sit seven points off the lead coach Steve Corica is confident they will peak at the right time.

Corica's side, who are sixth, have not been at their best this season and have work to do if they are to catch leaders Central Coast Mariners.

But with a game in hand over the table-toppers and less than half of the regular season remaining, Corica is confident his team will continue to improve as the business end of the campaign approaches.

"We definitely haven't peaked yet, we're still building and we're getting better," said Corica after goals from Bobo, Kosta Barbarouses and Alex Baumjohann saw off 10-man Melbourne.

"And we will get better as the season goes along and the players, the younger boys will get more minutes, which will be good for them.

"We'll hit the peak at the right time and finish strong."

The win over Melbourne marked the start of a run of three matches in seven days for Sydney, who face Perth Glory on Wednesday before taking on Melbourne City three days later.

Corica said it had been something of a stop-start season but saw a chance to build up a head of steam with a run of home matches, giving them momentum before the playoffs.

"We just want to build momentum now and if we can get three good results at home that will set us up for the push towards the end of the season and for the finals," he added.

"The A-League is very tight at the moment and I think it will go to the wire this year."
