SYDNEY, Feb 4 (Reuters) - A top official at New Zealand's central bank on Thursday said he would prefer a lower local currency, a day after it rallied sharply on a falling U.S. dollar.
Giving a speech in Sydney, Reserve Bank of New Zealand Assistant Governor John McDermott was asked where he would like to see the New Zealand dollar.
"Something that is lower than (where it is) today," he replied.
The kiwi currency was up at $0.6648 NZD=D4 on Thursday having surged 2.4 percent overnight.
