Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.55%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF), which rose 15.38% or 0.12 points to trade at 0.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) added 15.15% or 0.60 points to end at 4.56 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) was up 13.33% or 0.16 points to 1.36 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb), which fell 4.40% or 0.43 points to trade at 9.34 at the close. Metro Inc . (TO:MRU) declined 3.84% or 1.61 points to end at 40.27 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) was down 3.77% or 2.40 points to 61.20.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 838 to 491 and 160 ended unchanged.
Shares in Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) fell to 5-year lows; losing 4.40% or 0.43 to 9.34.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.74% to 24.97.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.51% or 16.70 to $1122.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.65% or 0.81 to hit $31.14 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.07% or 0.96 to trade at $32.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.53% to 0.7104, while CAD/EUR rose 1.43% to 0.6542.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 99.12.
