Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 2.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 8.90% or 94.00 points to trade at 1150.00 at the close. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) added 8.72% or 205.00 points to end at 2555.00 and Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) was up 8.68% or 79.00 points to 989.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.29% or 34.00 points to trade at 1449.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 1.87% or 7.90 points to end at 415.20 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 0.87% or 70.00 points to 7965.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1779 to 486 and 327 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.53% or 7.05 to $1317.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.79% or 0.83 to hit $47.16 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.63% or 0.78 to trade at $48.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.57% to 1.3302, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.8309.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 96.38.
