Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Banking and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which rose 3.36% or 45.50 points to trade at 1400.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 2.38% or 18.00 points to end at 774.50 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) was up 1.58% or 34.50 points to 2218.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 5.27% or 25.30 points to trade at 454.70 in late trade. Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) declined 3.44% or 6.80 points to end at 190.80 and Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) shed 3.38% or 97.00 points to 2774.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1128 to 859 and 425 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.25% or 2.85 to $1164.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.22% or 1.66 to hit $53.16 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 3.17% or 1.72 to trade at $56.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.76% to 1.2686, while EUR/GBP fell 0.29% to 0.8377.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 101.07.
