Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Retail, Banking and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite added 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Select Textile (AT:EPIr), which rose 29.29% or 0.029 points to trade at 0.128 at the close. Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) added 7.24% or 0.042 points to end at 0.622 and National Bank of Greece (AT:NBGr) was up 5.26% or 0.01 points to 0.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Athens Medical (AT:AMCr), which lost 6.76% or 0.050 points to trade at 0.690 in late trade. Selonda Aquaculture SA (AT:SELr) declined 2.98% or 0.0050 points to end at 0.1630 and Viohalco SA (AT:VIOH) shed 2.31% or 0.030 points to 1.270.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 61 to 34 and 15 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.40% or 5.35 to $1340.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.59% or 1.68 to hit $45.12 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 4.02% or 1.95 to trade at $46.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.43% to 1.1109, while EUR/GBP rose 0.67% to 0.8407.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.40% at 96.16.
