Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 2.31% or 24.00 points to trade at 1063.00 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 1.87% or 3.05 points to end at 166.35 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 1.83% or 3.10 points to 172.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.97% or 84.00 points to trade at 1606.00 in late trade. BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) declined 4.86% or 50.60 points to end at 989.90 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 4.61% or 37.70 points to 779.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1259 to 876 and 491 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.31% or 4.05 to $1312.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.00% or 1.39 to hit $44.96 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.02% or 1.47 to trade at $47.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.3135, while EUR/GBP fell 0.29% to 0.8494.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 96.01.
