Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Insurance and Technology Hardware & Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW), which rose 7.49% or 14.50 points to trade at 208.10 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 4.92% or 7.95 points to end at 169.65 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) was up 4.90% or 34.00 points to 727.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Next PLC (LON:NXT), which lost 4.86% or 253.00 points to trade at 4957.00 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 4.58% or 61.10 points to end at 1273.00 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) shed 2.61% or 8.40 points to 313.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1176 to 957 and 419 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.34% or 4.45 to $1321.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.33% or 0.58 to hit $44.16 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.16% or 0.99 to trade at $46.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.3207, while EUR/GBP rose 0.12% to 0.8511.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 95.34.
