SYDNEY, July 2 (Reuters) - Australian job advertisements in newspapers and on the internet fell in June and annual growth slowed sharply, hinting at some future softness in what has been one of the stronger sectors of the economy.
A survey by Australia and New Zealand Banking Group ANZ.AX out on Monday showed total job advertisements fell 1.7 percent in June, from May when they rose 1.4 percent. Annual growth in ads slowed to 6.9 percent, from 11.5 percent.
"The weakness in ANZ Job Ads for June indicates that the loss of momentum evident in employment growth this year will likely continue for some months," said ANZ's head of Australian economics David Plank.
"In saying this, it is important to note that job ads are still at a level consistent with continued jobs growth, just at a much lower level than occurred during 2017."
The data contrasted with the government's measure of vacancies, released last week, which jumped to an all-time high in the three months to May.
