Investing.com – Nigeria equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, Food, Beverages & Tobacco and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Lagos, the NSE 30 rose 2.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the NSE 30 were Wapco (LAGOS:WAPCO), which rose 7.29% or 5.03 points to trade at 76.04 at the close. Wemabank (LAGOS:WEMABAN) added 6.33% or 0.050 points to end at 0.840 and Nig Brew (LAGOS:NB) was up 5.99% or 8.01 points to 141.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unilever Nig (LAGOS:UNILEVE), which lost 0.97% or 0.32 points to trade at 32.80 in late trade. Pz Cussons LG (LAGOS:PZ) declined 0.56% or 0.12 points to end at 21.50 and Diamond Bank (LAGOS:DIAMONB) shed 0.43% or 0.010 points to 2.330.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 33 to 15 and 41 ended unchanged on the Lagos.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 3.15% or 1.51 to $46.50 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 3.04% or 1.49 to hit $47.48 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.64% or 8.20 to trade at $1296.50 a troy ounce.
EUR/NGN was up 0.49% to 223.400, while USD/NGN rose 0.83% to 199.000.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 94.79.
