JAKARTA, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Indonesia's Bulog is unlikely to import rice this year, the state food buyer's chief said on Monday, although overseas buys are possible by March or April 2016 due to delays in planting caused by the dry El Nino dry weather pattern.
Bulog currently has 1.5 million tonnes of rice stocks, President Director Djarot Kusumayakti told Reuters, adding that the agency had bought 1.85 million tonnes of rice from domestic suppliers in 2015, lower than a target of 4 million tonnes.
As domestic beef prices rise, Bulog has also been given an import permit for 50,000 live cattle, but Kusumayakti said his agency would need more than half the country's total annual import quotas to achieve the government's goal of price stability. ID:nL3N10L1PK
